HAWC, the Housing Authority of Washington County, is a public corporation established by act of the Board of County Commissioners of Washington County (BOCC), Maryland, under State law. HAWC's mission is to provide decent, safe and affordable housing solutions that strengthen our community by focusing on local needs through its Section 8, Public Housing and Rent to Own programs. The Authority's board of seven commissioners are appointed by the Board of County Commissioners and works in partnership with the Authority Executive Director. The Board of County Commissioners maintain close linkages with all its appointed boards and commissions by having its members serve as Board Liaisons. HAWC's current BOCC Liaision is Ruth Anne Callaham.

HAWC Tenant Buys Home - Friday the 13th was a very lucky day for one of HAWC's tenant families. After receiving Section 8 rental assistance for a number of years, the dream of home ownership was realized. Patricia M. credits her relationship with the HAWC staff and Linda Rhodes of the Family Self-Sufficiency program for keeping her on track to obtain her goal of good credit and enough savings to cover the down payment on the home she chose and has resided in for 1 1/2 years.
